Centro de Formación Somorrostro

Centro de Formación Somorrostro (Somorrostro) is a Vocational education training centre, created in 1947, and provides secondary education, 3 levels of Vocational Education and Training -initial, intermediate and higher VET, continuous VET (adult education, and education and training for unemployed persons). The center offers a wide range of qualifications in the following fields: Machine Technique; Industrial Maintenance, Repair and Operations; Automotive Maintenance; Electricity and Electronics; Information Technology; Safety and Environment; Construction and Civil engineering; Social services to the Community; Management and Marketing.

Nowadays, Somorrostro has more than 4.000 students and employs around 190 professionals being the largest VET organisation in the province of Bizkaia and the second in the Region of the Basque Country. The centre occupies an area of 60.000 square meters, comprising 9 buildings being 8.210 square meters dedicated to specific workshops and laboratories. We are also the main labour driver in our area of influence with1.000 job offers managed in 2014.

Somorrostro has agreements with more than 600 companies per year allowing the hosting of students in their workplaces for training periods, and also for the provision of training courses to their staff. In addition, it acts as an intermediary between job seekers and companies managing more than 1.000 job offers in 2013. Since the end of 2013 Somorrostro shares international job offers from the Eures network.

Mr. Sergio San Martín (Engineer): responsible for External Relations of Somorrostro since 2003, he is in charge of relations with companies and institutions, such as regional and state government, labour unions, associations, etc. In addition he is responsible for institutional and EU funded projects. He has a sound experience working with stakeholders and a deep knowledge of education and training policies having participated in the development, implementation and monitoring of several VET learning modules for the Ministry of Education in Spain. He is a representative at HETEL-the regional association of VET centres which also participates at EFVET, the European Federation of VET. Mr. Martin will be the project responsible in Somorrostro in terms of general management, control and quality assurance, but will also lead on applying the ECVET principles when defining the learning outcomes during the lifetime of the project.

Ms. Elia Urresola, EU project manager with more than 7 years of experience in EU funded projects such as Erasmus+, POCTEFA, Horizon 2020 7th Framework Programme (European Commission), Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (EACI) and Eurostars. She will be responsible for the day to day coordination of the project and the coordination of the project team at Somorrostro, both technical and administrative.
